empire lite?

Yesterday, a graphic representation of Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States was published. It's called, simply, A People's History of American Empire. Real American history in comic book form! What more could we possibly ask for?!

Here is one of the most amazing 8 and a half minutes of succinct video I've ever seen. It's Howard Zinn's essay "Empire or Humanity? What The Classroom Didn't Teach Me About the American Empire", and contains images from the newly published book. Viggo Mortenson narrates. The video is worth watching, if not for the content, then for the sexy way in which the word "Louisiana" comes sensuously rolling out of Mr. Mortenson's mouth.

You can read the full text of the essay at TomDispatch.com.

Intriguing!! I will need to buy the book now. Not sure Louisiana sounded sexy to me though, but could that men are not high on my list at the moment... *sigh*

it's not often that i watch a you tube deal 8 minutes long but that was totally excellent.

i wish P.N.A.C. would get more coverage.

Powerful stuff. Ought to be required viewing in schools.

That was very, very illuminating. I think more and more, people around our country are taking a hard look at books/opinions/narratives that support this view point.

I wish we could ALL come around, don't you?

The fact that you all took the time to watch means a lot to me.

Citizen- it IS required reading in many high schools now, at least sections of it. The future with kids coming out of high schools with Zinn under their belts at such a young age remains to be seen.

Sue! Thank you so much for passing this around. My friends and family were also very happy to receive it. I apologize for my part in the degradation of the comments on Newspeak (I should know better - some folks just don't respond to mockery.) You're very welcome for the N. Wolf vid-link, but I do hope it, or whatever your husband tells you, doesn't depress you too much. You are a truly inspiring and caring soul. PS- will have to send you some pix of my wife and I's bookshelves :)
