i love oregon, part I

It was like fast forwarding time, and not just the hour. Weeks of winter simply disappeared into daffodils and apricot blossoms. Spent several hours lost inside Powell's before emerging into the rain and a lonely city bar crawl with an old friend I hadn't seen in 12 years. Bicycles everywhere. People talk to strangers here-now I know where I learned that trait.

Oh god, places like Powell's make Buddhist detachment virtually impossible. I have such fond memories of that place...browsing for hours then chatting and sipping and basking in the cafe. And yeah, you're right, lots of talk with complete strangers. Someday I'll have to return. Tattered Cover is ok, but doesn't come close.
And ohhhh, the green. I so do miss the green! Lucky girl. I'm taking some nice vicarious sips off of you.

I am a big fan of Oregon, although I am more from Southern Oregon than up north with the big cities and all the traffic. Nevertheless, I am jealous.

I know two people in Oregon. One of them sucks big time and the other is one of the funniest people on the planet. I just need to stay very close to the big city. The suckie person lives in a tiny town....

And I love how your garden is raised and so tidy! I have a section of my back yard reserved for vegetables and a section reserved for herbs. No sweet little signs. But....ah...not long now and I can get my hands in the dirt.

I grew up in Oregon (as I know I've told you), and when we moved to southern california people would totally freak out when I said so much as hello on the street. "nobody walks in l.a." translates to nobody better freakin' talk to me that I don't know. I miss that about Eugene.
Everything is so green in your pics! Hopefully we'll get a bit of that after all this snow . . . think green thoughts!

Count me among the loyal altar boys who worship at The First Church Of Powell's. I bow down five times daily in that direction. And pilgrimage there at least twice a year.
