Sunbeams: They taught me that the truth would make me free but failed to warn me of the kind of trouble I’d get into by trying to tell it—I remain duly grateful. --Margaret Atwood

my antonia
"...sunflower-bordered roads always seem to me the roads to freedom." -Willa Cather
Before Lolita there was My Antonia, the perfect American novel by the perfect American writer.... I just pulled out my copy and read all the numerous passages that I'd underlined years ago. Here's a short one: "Some memories are realities, and are better than anything that can ever happen to one again." Cather brings tears to my eyes like no other artist.

244 pages of perfection, I would concur.
